California-based edibles brand Kiva is launching a new gummy today and with it a rather bold statement: “CBD IS DEAD.”

The brand’s newest gummies, Camino Midnight Blueberry, represent its first foray into CBN, a cannabinoid that’s been known to do things like help improve sleep quality and ease restlessness. Even better, Kiva says it does that without the next-day groggy feeling that sometimes comes with using THC in the evening hours.

“With over a third of all Americans sleep deprived, it became clear that there was a need for a product that enabled people to rest and recover from their busy lives,” Kiva CEO and Co-Founder Scott Palmer said in a statement. “CBN is a prevalent cannabinoid (similar to CBD) that has been linked with restful effects. We formulated a THC, CBN and terpene recipe with functional ingredients added to offer consumers our most relaxing product yet.”

Each gummy will have 1mg of CBN and 5mg of THC. Kiva says that the gummy’s unique blend of replaying terpenes, along with hints of chamomile and lavender oils will help encourage a good night’s sleep.

Like most edibles, the effects of the product can last up to eight hours, which can help you stay tucked away in dreamland all night.

So, what is CBN? You might be asking.

Cannabinol, also called CBN, is mostly found in aged cannabis and is mildly psychoactive.

CBN has been shown to help regulate the immune system and relieve pain associated with a number of conditions, including Crohn’s disease and arthritis. A number of manufactures already sell CBN products.

One that immediately comes to mind is Mary’s Medicinals, which sells a transdermal CBN patch for pain; however, it’s used by a number of different companies in everything from capsules to tinctures.

Kiva joins a number of other cannabis and hemp companies that have started to create sleep-specific versions of their products.

The company also released to fast-acting edibles for the holidays: a cannabis-infused turkey gravy as well as a hot chocolate.

Unlike traditional edibles, Kiva said the gravy bypasses the lengthy trip through your liver and is instead absorbed into the soft tissue and stomach, something that allows the cannabinoids to take effect in just two to 15 minutes rather than the 90 minutes plus that edibles typically take.

Kiva’s CBN gummies will be available at dispensaries across California for $18 a tin.
